Long Beach, CA. St. Anthony High School has announced that Head Football Coach Brian Walsh has stepped down from his post after seven years as head coach for the Saints. Walsh will continue as the high school’s Athletic Director.
“For seven years, Coach Walsh has provided young student-athletes in our community an opportunity to grow as football players and as young men of character, teaching them valuable life-lessons and that football is more than just about wins and losses,” stated Mike Schabert, St. Anthony’s Principal. “As St. Anthony has experienced significant growth over the past few years, I am confident that Mr. Walsh has built a great foundation for years to come. We look forward to his continued guidance of the program as Athletic Director”.
Prior to Walsh taking over, the Saints had posted 15-52-2 record under four different coaches. “I am proud of what we were able to accomplish while also providing much needed stability and continuity within this program. There is a great group of kids here that are ready to take this program to the next level,” said Walsh. St. Anthony should return a young but talented bunch next season, considering they will only lose five seniors to graduation out of a group of 50.
The search for the next St. Anthony head football coach will begin in January.
