St. Francis HS Works to Make Dreams Come True
Coach Jim Bonds and the St. Francis High School football team, in partnership with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, was honored to have four-year old Doryan Torres serve as the honorary team captain for the school’s second round CIF playoff game against Arroyo Grande on Friday, November 25th. St. Francis has developed an excellent relationship with Children’s Hospital over the years and the school is looking forward to hosting a blood drive for the organization on December 1st. The administrators, faculty members, students, and athletes at St. Francis recognize and admire Doryan’s tenacity and determination in his fight against cancer and, as a community, we want him, his family, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to know that we support them and their fight against this disease. Despite losing the game, the evening provided the St. Francis community the opportunity to share our Franciscan spirit of love and brotherhood with Doryan and his family. Attached are a few pictures of Doryan from Friday night’s football game.
Doryan Torres Carrillo was diagnosed in 2008 with a rare childhood brain cancer called ATRT (tumor type). Doryan was 14 months old when he was diagnosed. This year, in July 2011, his family received news that two new spots had shown up in Doryan’s spine. Since then the staff members at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Kaiser have tried to figure out what is taking place. At this point, nobody has an answer. Despite the uncertainty and constant struggle, Doryan continues to fight for his life. His fight against cancer has brought his family and the community together to form TEAM DORYAN to help combat the disease.
He was 14 months old when he was diagnosed. That’s a lot for such a little guy to have to deal with and he has done it with the greatest of ease. This year, July 2011, we got the some bad news, two new spots have shown up in Doryans spine. For the past few months the staff at CHLA and Kaiser have tried to figure out what is going on. At the current time we don’t have a direct answer for anyone. The staff at CHLA deserves much thanks for bringing our little guy this far, and Doryans new extended family at Kaiser, not to mention all the prayers and continued support from everyone. His fight against cancer has brought us all together forming TEAM DORYAN!
