La Verne, CA (December 23, 2011)    The Holiday Season should be a time of joy for all to celebrate. Recently, a group of Damien Spartans joined together to help share the Holiday Spirit with members of the local community in need. Led by Christian Service Coordinator Mr. Stephen Patten, a group of approximately 25 Spartan students, family, and faculty members prepared 150 Thanksgiving meals and delivered the meals to homeless and low income members of the community on November 23rd. The day of service, dubbed “Operation Thanksgiving”, was a huge success and inspired the group to plan a follow-up event. “Operation Christmas” was a slightly larger operation with a broader scope and more volunteer participation. On December 21st, the group prepared and delivered 200 Turkey dinners, cookies, hygiene kits, coats, and winter clothes to those locally in need.

In addition to the volunteers who cooked and delivered the meals and holiday packages, these “Operations” were also made possible by those who generously donated the food, clothes, supplies and money to the events. Mr. Patten was pleased with the spirit of giving and the outcome of the events, saying “Thank you to all the Spartan students, parents, and faculty who came together to make this a huge success.”
