SAINT BONAVENTURE HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES MIRACLE ON SERAPH STREET
VENTURA, CA, December 20, 2011—From a rain soaked Saturday emerged a crystal clear Sunday evening where stars shined brightly and the feeling of Christmas was in the air. It was a glorious celebration as students from St. Bonaventure High School experienced first- hand the meaning of Christmas and the joy which is found in helping those in need.
On Sunday, December 18th, over 50 students and 20 families from the St. Bonaventure school community came together to provide a Christmas celebration, Miracle on Seraph Street, for underprivileged mothers and their children. Children and their families from the Lighthouse Women and Children’s Shelter and Tender Life Maternity Home were provided an evening of Christmas fun and cheer which included Christmas activities (decorating cookies, making gingerbread houses), face painting, carnival games, a home cooked Christmas dinner, a visit from Santa Claus, and a live Nativity scene celebrating The Birth of Christ.
As the evening unfolded, families enjoyed the home-cooked meal provided by our Seraph families. Children’s eyes opened wide with delight as they watched Santa stroll down the stairs and take his place as the guest of honor. Laughter filled the air with Christmas games and activities. It was a shining example of community working together – an evening filled with giving and receiving, with love and friendship.
As the evening concluded with the singing of Oh Holy Night, the miracle wasn’t that it snowed (even though it did!). The Miracle on Seraph Street was just that… a miracle of love through the presence of Christ. In following the words of St. Francis, “It is in the giving that we receive.” All who were a part of the evening are a little richer today as a result of one very special night.
From all of us at St. Bonaventure, we hope you had a Blessed Christmas season and a healthy New Year.
