Christmas came early this year for some very brave children at City of Hope thanks to the Desi Geestman Foundation (DGF). In the spirit of service before self, the St. Francis High School Drumline abandoned the usual secret Santa gift exchange in order to donate toys to children in need at City of Hope by collecting gifts for the DGF. As the third quarter of school approaches, the St. Francis community is looking forward to celebrating the Franciscan virtue of joy. However, the Drumline already put the virtue into action by ensuring the DGF is able to deliver joy and smiles to children in need at City of Hope. All of the toys collected by the students will go directly to a child being treated in the pediatric ward of the hospital. The DGF was very appreciative and very touched by the thoughtful actions of the St. Francis Drumline. In the process of giving the young men of the St. Francis Drumline made an important discovery – in giving they received the gift of joy that comes through the experience of serving others before self.

The DGF is dedicated to the memory and wishes of Desi, a little girl with a dream of one day helping to touch the lives of children with cancer. At some time in our lives cancer has touched someone we love. Cancer is not a disease of choice and invades the lives of all races and ages. The Desi Geestman Foundation (DGF) is a unique charity that is supported by people like you, people who want to make a difference. Our goal is to provide financial and emotional support to these innocent victims and their families at The City of Hope National Medical Center and other children’s hospitals.
DGF raises money from individual and corporate donors. With a core of volunteers and minimal operating costs, the DGF provides services to children and their families suffering from cancer that are not duplicated by any other organization. The organization’s goal is to continue to expand the current services provided for pediatric cancer patients at the City of Hope to other Children’s Hospitals.
