
Christian Rodriguez
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School
Christian Rodriguez is a senior at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary (CSHM) High School. He came to CSHM High School from St. Hilary School in Pico Rivera. As a freshman, Christian became active in Campus Ministry, Rotary Interact, National Honors Society and several other clubs. He quickly became a student leader in the Campus Ministry program assisting with the preparation of the school masses and services. He is also a Catechism Teacher’s Assistant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Santa Fe Springs. He helped in that program for three years. Christian is an example of all that is good in our young people. When asked to serve or help Christian is always there. As a freshman he represented CSHM High School in the local Rotary International Speech Contest where he received first place competing against juniors and seniors from other local high schools. In his sophomore year Christian became more involved by assisting the school recruitment director in visiting elementary schools and going to high school nights. Each time, Christian would speak about the many wonderful experiences and faith enriching programs he was involved in at CSHM High School. Two years ago Christian was selected by a CSHM school committee to attend an all expense paid International Network of Schools Conference of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Porto, Portugal. There Christian met and interacted with students from around the globe. They worked together on local service projects and learned about how each of their schools were helping to make a difference in their communities. Christian has a strong Catholic faith and is an example for all young people. He proudly lives the Catholic faith everyday and in everything he does. Christian is young man of great character.

Jennifer Smith
Pomona Catholic
High School
Jennifer Smith is a Senior at Pomona Catholic High School. At the end of her Junior year, she was selected as a member of the Junior Honor Guard for the 2010 graduation exercises. Jennifer is a member of the National Honor Society and Campus Ministry. Her enthusiasm spills over as she represents Pomona Catholic as an Ambassador. Jennifer is also a member of the Pacer basketball team. She also gives her time to the Pomona Catholic Pacer Buddies tutoring program in which she tutors students of the local Pomona community. She has mastered the skill of balancing her time among her studies, school activities, community involvement, sports, and family. Jennifer lives her life according to her values and faith life. She is a student who epitomizes the Pomona Catholic ideals.

David Deaton
St. Anthony High School
David Deaton is an involved and active senior at St. Anthony High School who also volunteers in his home parish, St. Irenaeus, and in the community. David’s service and involvement at St. Anthony High School are beyond exemplary: Student Body President, NHS and CSF scholar, President’s Ambassador, Long Beach Rotary Interact Club, Campus Ministry and Soldiers For Christ Prayer Group, as well as participation in the SAHS Jazz Band, Drum Line and Drama Department’s plays and musicals. David was selected to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp (RYLA) and is also a member of the Track & Field team. Outside the many hats he wears as a St. Anthony Saint, David also participates in the Tilden Study Center’s “Ahead Leadership” Program every other weekend and regularly visits the elderly in a convalescent home. David strives to actualize his potential to the fullest while living his faith in all areas of life. In addition to all his accomplishments, David recently earned Summa Cum Laude status on the Saint’s Honor Roll with a 4.57 GPA. David embodies the best of the St. Anthony High School tradition.

Seanise Haskins
Holy Family High School
Seanise Haskins, a senior at Holy Family High School (HFHS), is a role model to her peers and underclassman. She embodies the ideal student spiritually, academically, and emotionally. Seanise is a lady who thrives on education and leadership. Not only is she the ASB President, an Ambassador for HFHS, in Choral, Theatre, and involved in various clubs, like Campus Ministry, Key, Health, and the Wild Life Clubs, she is also enrolled and performing well in advanced and AP courses. Being that her faith is important to her, she is a Kairos retreat leader. Aside from her faith formation and academic duties, Seanise represents the City of Pasadena as Miss Pasadena. Currently, she is in the running for the Miss California title. Seanise dedicates herself to all that she participates in. She is a lady waiting to make history.

Sergio Figueroa
Bishop Alemany
High School
Sergio Figueroa is an outstanding student at Bishop Alemany High School. Sergio grew up in the projects in Pacoima; he is the youngest of four boys. His mother is a single mom who works hard to support her family. Sergio attended public elementary school, and then attended Pacoima Middle school, where he met Pete Ferry. Pete Ferry took an interest in Sergio, and encouraged Sergio and his mom to apply to Bishop Alemany High School. Pete was concerned that if Sergio continued on to public high school he would drop out of school, and possibly join a gang. All three of Sergio’s older brothers dropped out of school before they graduated. Pete Ferry helped Sergio apply and enroll at Bishop Alemany High School. When Sergio came to Bishop Alemany High School, it was the first time he attended a school where there was no violence. When you speak to Sergio, he will tell you that before he attended Bishop Alemany High School he was tempted to join a gang, and he may have even dropped out of school. Sergio credits Bishop Alemany High School with motivating him to be a better person. Sergio strives to do his best in all he does; he believes that Catholic School is helping him to reach his goals. Sergio is not only an outstanding Honors student; he is also an outstanding athlete. Sergio plays Varsity football and is also an outstanding Wrestler. One of Sergio’s favorite activities he has participated in at Bishop Alemany High School was the reading program, where he went to the Partner Elementary Schools and read to the Kindergarten and First Grade Students. When Sergio is not working hard at school or studying he is working at home to help his mother and brothers. When Sergio graduates from Alemany this year, he hopes to continue his education. He will be the first person in his family to graduate high school and to continue on to college. He is interested in a possible career in engineering but is also considering law enforcement. He is not sure but he would like to serve and protect the people in his community. Whenever you see Sergio on campus you are always greeted with a smile. Sergio is one of the hardest working, kindest, most sincere young men you will ever meet.
